Sharon Cuneta Said That The 'Perfect' Darna Was Angel Locsin But People Have To Move On

Fans were all excited to know who will be the next Darna when it was announced last 2015 that there will be another "Darna" adaptation that will be spearheaded by Direk Erik Matti. 

But the big question was, "Who will be the next Darna?"

Choices were Liza Soberano, Pia Wurtzbach and Nadine Lustre. However, according to Sharon Cuneta, choosing who will be the next Darna, they should know this one factor. That being the next Darna, "It's a responsibility," Cuneta said according to ABS-CBN News. "Panindigan mo si Darna. Mahiya ka naman kay Darna," she added.

For Sharon Cuneta, the next Darna should be the one who can upbear the values of that the superheroine depicts especially when it comes to women empowerment. Darna is not just a costume, it's an accountability. 

"Lahat ng body pains naramdaman ko. Sabi ko nga, 'Pwede bang mag-drama na lang ako? Kahit limang balde iyong iiyak ko," Sharon Cuneta shared her experience when she portrayed Darna for a cameo for "Captain Barbell" that was played by Mr. Edu Manzano back in 1986.

According to Ms. Sharon Cuneta, Darna, being passed to another generation is like a tradition that the country upholds. 20 different actresses already played Darna since 1951 and the last actress who portrayed Darna was Marian Rivera for GMA Netwrok's television series.

"Darna is something na sadyang pinamamana. Angel did a wonderful job. She was so beautiful and perfect as Darna kasi magaling siyang kumilos - alam mo iyong tough at feminine? Tapos siyempre, she's curvy, it goes without saying," Cunata said.

"But Darna is really meant to be passed on to another of the new generation. It's been like that. It's a Filipino thing na pinamamana talaga. Hangga;t wala na kami dito, magkakaroon at magkakaroon pa rin ng Darna," she added.
