5 Unpopular Facts About Darna That All Fans Should Know

It's not a secret that a lot of people are into superhero movies and comics nowadays. The interest that people had shown in superheroes and supervillains grew but the heartbreaking part is that people are slowly forgetting about our local heroes or our Pinoy superheroes and heroines.

That being said, we have here something that could probably take you back in time to appreciate more of our local heroes. It's time for us to show off our Amazing Warrior Maiden or th eone and only, Darna.

Through the years, Darna has been gaining adoration and controversies at the same time and to get things straight, FHM Philippines listed the 5 unpopular facts about Darna that everyone should know!

1. Darna has appearead in 14 films, 3 TV shows and two ballet productions

14 movies that were released since the 1951 and three television shows (1971, 2005, and 2009), and two ballet productions by the Cultural Center of the PHilippines were inspired by our Philippine Superheroine, Darna.

14 actresses have played Darna in different movies and TV series including everyone's favorite Darna, Angel Locsin.

2. There are differences between the Darna in the comics and the Darna in the TV and movies

In the comics, she has the typical superhero strengths and powers, but then, in TV shows, Darna has the combination of the powers of the local and international superheroes.

3. Darna is older than Wonder Woman

Darna wasn't inspired by Wonder Woman. A lot of poeple accused Mars Ravelo of immitating Wonder Woman but he didn't. In fact, Darna made her first appearances in drawings back in 1939 while Wonder Woman was published two years after Darna was released.

4. Darna was rejected by major publishers.

For eight years, the major publishers have rejected Darnal. Publishers thought that a female superhero would never be successful compared to the male superheroes. It was only in 1947 that Darna was finally published by Bulaklak Magazine.

5. Darna was inspired by the Man of Steel

Mars Ravelo saw that Superman is a great symbol for America in representing truth, justice, and the American way and so he decided to do the same thing. He decided to create Darna, a superhero symbol for the Philippines.
